Abstract:
ABSTRACT
The main objective
of the study is to examine employee participation in decision-making and its effects
on employee performance at the Catholic University College. A descriptive approach was been used to describe employee participation in decision-making at the Catholic University College (CUCG). The cluster sampling technique was used to divide the population into mutually exclusive
groups and then draw random samples from each group. The main research instrument
used in this study was questionnaires. Statistical Package for Social Science
(SPSS) was used to analyze the pre-coded questions. The study found out that employee
involvement and empowerment approaches aim at enhancing responsibility, increasing
authority, and making jobs challenging and interesting to employees, based on
their abilities and the needs of the organization. The study also revealed that
employee participation practice showed inefficiencies such as ignorance, little
knowledge, and its unreliability nature for employees to depend on. Participation
of employees in decision-making as per the research may be low when abilities,
skills, and knowledge on certain issues are needed to arrive at a decision. The
study recommends that employees should also be in the know about any
information concerning their welfare and other matters. This will help
employees identify themselves with the organization and be willing to give
their best whenever the need arise for them to be involved in decision making.
